Third way of Thinking
Every physicist and engineer learns to think in the physical way, in which a point is a small dot on a sheet of paper, a straight line a mark made by drawing a sharp pencil along a straight edge, a circle a mark made by a pair of compasses, and so on. Secondly there is ideal or mathematical way, in which a point is no longer a dot on paper, but an ideal thing that the dot serves only to suggest. The engineer and physicist generally think in the physical way, but when there is a theorem to be proved, they subconsciously switch to the mathematical way. On the other hand the mathematician will think primarily in the mathematical way, but he will change to the physical way when he wants to aid his thoughts with a diagram.
But an Economist or a Businessman has a different or a third way of thinking. Sometimes they need to use the physical way to arrive at an equation or use a physical way to interpret an equation. The best example of that is the “Game Theory” which explained the “Theory of Bargaining”. Similarly we can think (or to put it in a precise form “visualize”) product or a set of products of a company as “dynamics of a body”. Once we move further with the same thoughts, we realize that the laws in Classical Mechanics and Special Theory of Relativity fit very well with the Market Behavior. In this thesis we will fine the basic laws of physics fitting very well to Business Management, Market Modeling…etc.
Mathematical Models. Gradually stripping physical things of attributes, which are unimportant for the question in hand, we arrive at a mathematical way of thinking about nature. The particular mathematical model to be used on a given occasion depends on the occasion, and to arrive at the occasion we need to use some assumptions. Again the to make an assumption we use the “physical way”. There might be many models and the one, which we choose depends on the question we are discussing at the moment. In fact, mechanics- and indeed all theoretical science- is a game of mathematical make-believe.
